This game is weird. Everyone revels in its difficulty, and yet all my fortresses (once I got used to the UI, and before then I just had a poorly built structue that I scrapped because I was bored) have flourished and thrived, with the only hiccups being the rare child snatcher, the occasional stark raving mad dwarf or a stupid dwarf with a fey mood asking for a material I can't possibly obtain.
That's it. Oh, and a pack of monkeys. But one of my marksdwarves took them all single-handedly. And I'm not counting those wuss kobolds. They don't deserve to be mentioned. So I won't mention them.
No dragons, no cave-ins, no lava, no cave floods, (okay, one, but it was anticipated. What do you expect to happen if you dig a free path into your basement for the water to follow?) That idiot mason kept building the wall from the inside, so I kept having to dig him out, then have him rebuild it. Then he'd be stuck inside again, and, well, He was my best mason. I would feel bad if he died, so I let him flood my WIP basement. The water dried up eventually though and now it's a storeroom with more stone and bars than you can shake a stick at.
No goblin hoardes, no bubonic plauges, no running out of supplies, no seiges, very few zombies that are pathetically weak anyway, no skeleton carps, (breathes), no fires, no food shortages, no rodent infestations, none of it. I feel seriously left out.
