Opiette's very successful version of the game.

(07/07/10)wxSand 4.6.3 - MAC version up-to-date!

Postby purple100 on Mon Sep 28, 2009 3:16 pm

Here's the latest Windows build:
http://www.fallingsandgame.com/purple100/fsg-4.6.3.zip
And the latest Mac OS build:
http://www.fallingsandgame.com/purple100/fsg-4.6.3-MAC.zip

4.6.1 - you can now add a pair of coordinates after an item or itemEx line. These numbers will act as an offset from the item's normal center. putting -100 and -100 will result in the item being drawn roughly 100 pixels to the left and 100 pixels up. The item previews also reflect the changes.

4.6.2 - New keyword 'temprange' acts as a working hotself/coldself all-in-one. Ambient temperature transfer (losing/gaining temp based on Sandbox Temp) can now be disabled in-game.

4.6.3 - Windows 7 and Vista crashing fixed, experimental new conductivity system added (set "Use New Heat:" to 1 in the settings.ini). note - due to the new scaling, existing heat elements like torch and fire will not produce much heat and will require custom tweaking. Here's an explanation:
An element with conductivity > 1.0 will produce energy. An element with at least 2.0 conductivity will produce at least 1 energy per frame. An element with at least 3.0 conductivity will produce at least 2 energy per frame. Any fractional amount of conductivity will become an element's percent chance to gain 1 energy in that frame. So an element with 1.50 conductivity has a %50 chance of gaining 1 energy per frame. An element with 5.87 conductivity will gain 4 energy per frame AND has an %87 chance of gaining 1 more. Obviously the highest useful conductivity value is 100.0, which will generate 99 energy per frame.

For a sand modder, getting your elements to heat up at the desired rate is as easy as taking the average amount of energy per frame that you would like to achieve and adding 1.0.

Please report any bugs you have found with these versions. Tell me what the problem is and how I can reproduce it. I cannot support Windows Vista or Windows 7 at this time. I can only guarantee that it works on Windows XP SP3.

I don't guarantee that it will run properly on Mac OS, but I have only tested in on a PPC machine running 10.4.

great work on this, it looks really good so far, and your working really fast.

here are a couple of bugs i found:

sometimes when you reload a mod that you just edited on the largest screen setting, it will get an unexpected error report and close the program, but it doesn't happen always so it might not be a bug I'll try and find the exact cause.

when explosions touch an element, than pixel of the element that it touched is shot out in a random direction.
(Can't really think of a good explanation for the one above.)

not exactly a bug, but it is annoying,
element descriptions are a little more picky, like the

Code: Select all
#wxSand: Owen Piette's Falling Sand Game
#Version 4.6, File subversion 2

thing at the top of all the mods was in all of my elements element descriptions till i made another # on the mod

(sorry if my writing is confusing in any of my posts, it's not my thing.)

If the explosions in 4.4 did what you described, I'm not going to classify that as a bug.

The element/comment thing, though. I can fix that. Thank you!

Replaced alpha4 with alpha5. This one has a new default physics file from Normandy333, a new toolbar button to step one frame at a time, and a big bugfix for items.

Meh. Forcing me to spend time on the mod, eh? :D .

I did a quick fix, check the thread. Thanks for including my work in the release.

For some odd reason, the toolbar appears black for me. I have no clue as to why this would occur. It has happened since alpha 4.

The toolbar should be a dark gray color. I changed it to make the icons easier to distinguish.

I think I'm going to post new builds ever day as long as I have something new added. Tomorrow's build has a paint-bucket fill tool with an icon.

This will be interesting.

Any plans for an auto-updater?

If I made an updater, it would be a small external program. There should be a pretty easy way to update without downloading the whole 1.5 megabytes every time.

Want.

Possibly the ability to have it all moshed into a single .exe? :D

I'd do it myself with win compressor, but there's obviously the little issue of a new build being released every 5 minutes.

...uh, not that I'm complaining. :)

SUPER EDIT:

For everyone that's using the paintbucket tool, may I request replacing the image with this until purple makes a betterer one?

Image It works well, I tried it. :)

SUPER EDIT V2:

The dialog "ARE YOUZ SURE YOU WANTz TO UNmAKES THE SANDBOX!!111!!1???!?!!" (As in, the Clear Sandbox button) is extremely irritating if we are just trying elements out, perhaps we could have the option of disabling it?
